ëInterchangeí is the basic profile. It support geometry, texturing, and basic lighting and animation

ëInteractiveí is the next level out. It contains various sensor nodes (e.g., PlanseSensor, TouchSensor, etc.), additional lighting (Spotlight, PointLight, and additional grouping nodes like Switch and Anchor.

ëExtensibleí is a superset of ëInterchangeí with the addition of Script, and PROTO (EXTERNPROTO) nodes. Additional nodes are included

The ëBase VRML97í profile includes all capabilities from VRML97. It does not include any of the newer nodes, some of which are in the ëExtensible; profile (e.g., KeySensor).

ëFull0xí includes all defined nodes such as those in the Nurbs and GeoSpatial components.
